Fourth of July is Upon Us
We have been very busy here at Flag-Works in downtown Concord, New Hampshire.
There have been a few holidays so far this year, that are important to many Americans. One of them was Flag Day, which was on June 14th. . We would like to thank the many patrons who have brought in their old and worn out flags. Flag-Works donates these flags to some of our local Boy Scout troops, and local American Legions. In this way, the flags can be put to rest in flag ceremonies that are usually held on this holiday.
Another important holiday for many out there is Father’s Day, celebrated only a few days after Flag Day. We have had many customers purchase a variety of aluminum flagpoles and, fiberglass flagpoles, in all sizes as they make great gifts for Dad. If you need a new flagpole or always wanted one, give us a call, we still have many in stock and would love to help you.
It’s time for all of us to celebrate our independence with Fourth of July decorations, flags and banners. There is still plenty of time to purchase a new American flag and flagpole for your yard. So come on by, or click a link and get everything you need for the upcoming Fourth of July.
Again we would like to thank all of our past, current, and future customers who celebrate their independence by flying flags from us, here at Flag-Works. Remember all flags purchased online ship for free. Fly your flags with pride and have a great summer.

Landscaping with Flagpoles or Where should I put the flagpole?
When you purchase a flagpole to fly the American flag you should consider the installation as a landscaping project. First take a look at your yard and home in combination with garage and driveway, the big picture.
Now ask the question, where should I put the flagpole? Remember balance! Different height flagpoles will look better at different distances from the home. Some homes lend their features to the right or left of the home, some right in front, with others in front of the breeze way. All in all this is you first and main consideration. Please consider the first and second rule when determining a location.
First rule: Flagpole should not put the flag above the roof line. Certainly a 35′ flagpole in front of a small ranch will not look as good as a 35′ flagpole just off the side of the same house creating its own display with maybe a garden around the flagpole. Second rule: Keep the flagpole away from obstructions, ie tree branches, gutters etc. With this rule remember trees grow. After flagpole installation remember to dress up the base of the flagpole with your choice of vegetation from landscaping blocks, flowers to bushes. Let your imagination go! What Size American Flag, 5×8′?
If you want to fly a 5′ x 8′ American flag there are a few things you must consider. First, what size pole would accommodate a flag that is 40 sq ft.?
This is a 25′ flagpole with 5×8 American flag flying. Use the guideline that the length of the flag should be from 1/4th to 1/3rd the height of the flagpole. (See flag size chart.) This would make the appropriate flagpole either a 25′ or a 30′ flagpole. OK, now if you are considering flying two flags on your 25′ flagpole you need to take in consideration that 40 sq ft is what is recommended. So if you want a second flag you should use a 4′ x 6′ and a 3′ x 5′ (24 sq ft + 15 sq ft = 39 sq ft) flag combination. This scenario removes the 5′ x 8′ American flag from the 25′ flagpole. So, if you want to fly two flags and retain the 5′ x 8′ American flag size you would need a 30′ flagpole. This pole allows for a 5′ x 8′ or a 6′ x 10′ American flag, or 60 sq ft. This would then allow for a 5′ x 8′ American flag and a 4′ x 6′ state flag, 40 sq ft X 24 sq ft = 64 sq ft. One more item to consider is the strength of you flagpole. If the pole is a new one piece aluminum flagpole or a one piece fiberglass flagpole then no worries, but if the pole is old, thin, or decaying you should consider flying smaller flags. With this knowledge choose how many flags you will be flying and your flagpole size, then get out and hoist some flags.
