Designed in 1917, by World War One Army Captain Robert \"ServiceQuessner, the in service star banner<\/a> is traditionally hung in the window of the home of a person who has a family member currently serving in the United States Military<\/a>. \u00a0That person can be a son, daughter, wife, husband, etc. \u00a0The blue star represents one family member\u00a0currently\u00a0in service; a gold star on a banner represents a family member who was killed during\u00a0service. \u00a0Seeing these banners today in windows of homes reminds everyone of us that war is not something that\u00a0happens\u00a0overseas on far-away lands, but is something that affects every street and neighborhood in our country. \u00a0Banner is 8″x15″ with crossbar and a gold cord and tassel. \u00a0The service star is also\u00a0available\u00a0in a 3×5′ flag<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
