the U.S. flag, a naval battle flag, and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flag-works.com\/Arkansas_State_Flag.htm\"><b>Arkansas state flag<\/b><\/a>.\u00a0 But Arkansas didn&#8217;t have a flag yet.\u00a0 Through a design competition, Miss Willie Hocker became the Arkansas flag&#8217;s creator.\u00a0 Her original flag design showed only three stars, recalling that Arkansas was one of the three states formed from the<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louisiana_Purchase\"> Louisiana Purchase of 1803<\/a> from France.\u00a0 The state name, Arkansas, was added later, as was the upper blue star, which represents the Confederacy.\u00a0 The diamond shape acknowledges that Arkansas is home to the only known diamond mine in the United States.\u00a0 The 25 stars surrounding it symbolize that Arkansas was the 25th state.<strong>\u00a0 Arkansas State Flag Adopted:<\/strong>\u00a0 1913<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
