The Flag Goes By

 <\/p>\n

Hats off!
\nAlong the street there comes
\nA Blare of bugles, a ruffle of drums,
\nA flash of color beneath the sky:
\nHats off!
\n The flag is passing by!<\/a><\/p>\n

Blue and crimson and white it shines,
\nOver the steel-tipped, ordered lines.
\nHats Off!
\nThe colors before us fly;
\nBut more than the flag is passing by.<\/p>\n

Sea-flights and land-fights, grim and great,
\nFought to make and to save the State:
\nWeary marches and sinking ships;
\nCheers of victory on dying lips;<\/p>\n

Days of plenty and years of peace;
\nMarch of a strong land’s swift increase;
\nEqual justice, right and law,
\nStately honor and reverend awe;<\/p>\n

Sign of a nation, great and strong
\nTo ward her people from foreign wrong:
\nPride and glory and honor,–all
\nLive in the colors to stand or fall.<\/p>\n

Hats off!
