This is a poem I wrote for my cousin after she finished her first (of many) 100 mile run. \u00a0The run took place in Vermont at the Vermont one hundred miler.<\/p>\n

24:57:35<\/strong><\/p>\n Morning dark, stomach fluttering awaiting the gun <\/p>\n Aid stations pass 3, 5, and 9, with many more in due time <\/p>\n Thoughts running too, I think I’ll sing <\/p>\n Runners come, walkers go, one foot more, I’m gonna go <\/p>\n Night comes on, but\u00a0Gilly’s my light <\/p>\n Finish nears with friends I hear, aunt, cousin, daughters ever so near <\/p>\n Patrick J. \nStart, I’m here, I can do it, Bang! It’s just begun
\nLight in hand up hill and down
\nJust beginning, hours to go, I won’t fall down<\/strong><\/p>\n
\nContinue on, forever the flow, as other runners go
\nStage road aid, friends abound, one marathon down
\nUp hill and down, sometimes I put on a frown<\/strong><\/p>\n
\nA happy song, eliminating my feet’s sting
\nCamp 10 bear for the first time
\nHeat on my mind, will I make it on time<\/strong><\/p>\n
\nThis I must, do it all, 100 miles, that is all
\nAt 10 Bear two, I complete sixty eight point two
\nI’m on my way, to make a hundred, this day<\/strong><\/p>\n
\nThe G.A.C. has entered the fight
\nAs we run and hobble on, just in time to turn it on
\nGreen lights line the bend, I’m all a glow, it’s gonna end<\/strong><\/p>\n
\nThe moment, why, they’re all here, it’s almost time to enter in cheer
\nComplete this day they all have come, to see Vicki and
\nHer one hundred mile run, outcome<\/strong><\/p>\n
