US Army Infantry Guidon the True Size

A finished Infantry guidon is displayed here.  This is a double sided read correct guidon. The guidon is made to military specifications.  After our customer orders a guidion and informs us to what company and other information is to be on the guidon we send them a proof.  The proof (click link) FW INFANTRY01 that our customer receives prior to Flag-Works making their Infantry guidon. The proof shows both sides of the guidon, this guarantees that the guidon will look exactly as required which is letters and numbers read correct on both sides and the insignia is single reverse.
The size of a guidon is determined by Institute of Heraldry, Departartment of the Army, Base drawing for US Army and US Air force Guidons  5-1-4  Revised 12 November 2002.  Description states:  A guidon is a swallow-tailed unit marker, 20-inch hoist by a 27 3/4-inch fly, the swallow-tail end forked 10 inches.  Fringe is not used on guidons.  Following the above guidelines insures that a Flag-Works guidon is made to Military specification and to the customers needs.  Please note that the Army regulations 840-10 and wikipedia states a guidon dimension is 20″ x 27″.  They are both in error.  The above information is straight from the Institute of Heraldry, today.  A new revision will be coming out to correct the Army Regs.  The schematic drawings that we use to make the guidons were never changed to 27″ and never will be.  Be careful you can’t always believe what you read. Ha, now do you believe me? If you would like proof please leave a comment and I will send you a copy of the schematic for the guidons.

Air Force Guidons for Edwards Air Base

Flag-Works over America has been commissioned to make Air Force guidons for the 412 MDG unit at Edwards Air base. The Guidons have a blue field with two swallow tails and an eagle in the center. The numbers above the eagle designate the parent unit and the alphabetical portion below the eagle designates the squadron. (click to view proof FW Airforce17a)  All of our guidons such as, Calvary, Military Police, and Infantry are made to military specifications using two pieces of nylon (no patches) for the designation to be read correct both sides and the insignia is sewn through the nylon to create a single reverse insignia, all per specifications.  Flag-Works has been making Military guidons for over 16 years.  We have made many custom guidons and many standard for almost every branch of service.  A list of some are: Signal Corps guidon, Armor guidon, Medical Corps guidon, Corps of Engineers guidon, Quartermaster corps guidon, Ordnance guidon, Special Forces guidon, Chemical Corps guidon, Anti Air Craft guidon, Field Artillery guidon, Air Defense guidon , JAG guidon, Marine Corps guidon, (Rectangle shape) and Transportation guidon.  If I missed any we can make it.

Military Guidons are Flag-Works Specialty

Military guidons are one of Flag-Works over America specialties. We’ve been making them for military units throughout the world for over 15 years.  We find that once a unit purchases a guidon from us, the rest of the units around them order a Flag-Works guidon too. Why? We use a double background (two pieces of fabric) and all of our guidons are made to military specifications. This requires that the insignia be sewn through the background material, single reverse, and the numbers/letters read correct on both sides. All of our guidons are custom made, and require a proof approved by the customer.  This assures customer satisfaction and a correctly made guidon the first time.

Medical guidon(Flash altered color- background color is maroon)

Flag-Works doesn’t use a patch to sew on letters and numbers. We sew them directly onto the fabric.  This affords a quality unsurpassed by any other guidon.  Next time you see a double background guidon ask where the unit got it made, they will probably respond with Flag-Works over America.
