Tennessee
State Flag TN
The 16th state, admitted 1796
Leroy Reeves of the Third Regiment, Tennessee
Infantry, designed this flag. The three stars stand for the three Grand Divisions of
the state - the Great Smoky Mountains and others in the East, the highlands in the middle,
and the lowlands along the Mississippi River. These sections are known as East,
Middle, and West Tennessee. The circle symbolizes the binding together of the people
in these sections of the state. It has also been said that the stars represent the
three presidents from Tennessee TN, Andrew Jackson, James Polk, and Andrew Johnson.
